Less than two weeks after announcing their support role on Andy Grammer’s Don’t Give Up On Me Tour, Nightly hits the stage at the Wiltern in LA. With the task of preparing the stage for Andy Grammer to follow, the band walked on the purple lit stage and settles into their position. The set began with “Talk To Me”, a track off of their first EP Honest. Though for many it was their first time hearing of the band, true fans came to support them as they sang along with them in a crowded room. The band also showcased their tracks from their newest EP Talk You Down released on June 14 which includes “Twenty Something”. If anyone has ever heard their music, listeners know that their music is made of perfect combination of sadness with good beats, tugging at every angle of our emotional hearts. Seeing them live was no difference as their facial expression was especially filled with emotion when they sang the second bridge of this song:
“And if you decided that you don't wanna stay, I won't try and stop you from moving to LA but know that I still hate it every time you say, “Will you forget about me?"” The lyrics and voice of lead singer Jonathan Capeci and guitarist Joey Beretta joined by drummer Nicholas Sainato is the most heart-rending yet comforting thing ever.
The good vibes in the venue is intensified when they performed one of their dance tunes “S.T.A.Y.”. Captivated by their performance, the crowd danced along to the beat of the music.
Nightly continued to entertain their audience and show them a good time with “Holding On” and “Miss You Like Hell”. What makes Nightly’s music so outstanding is their relatable lyrics. These words speak to your soul, making you desire the kind of love that hurts good.
But unfortunately, all good things must come to an end (referring to the show, not relationships). Their set was closed with “XO”, a song about someone you must let go but are still in love with. Stepping off the stage leaving the audience wanting more, Nightly won over many listeners that night who would check out their music on their streaming devices. As Nightly stood by their merchandise booth after the show, many old and new fans ran up to greet them and tell them how much they enjoyed them—which proves that they did, in fact, successfully set the stage for Andy Grammer to follow. We can be hopeful to see them on their own headlining tour very soon where we would be able to hear more of their music!
