The young band formed of 5 friends from Minnesota is not your typical boyband. Incorporating tambourines, maracas, a trumpet and side percussions, these guys include all different types of instruments into their music to make it as organic and unique sounding as possible. Their Hippo Campus signature flair was evident on Tuesday night, as they stepped on stage at the Santa Barbara Bowl, with composure and an aura of star performers in their walk.
Their playful nature was evident even through their light pink decorated stage which was set up with props from the children’s book Bambi, which is also the title of their album released in 2018.
The Hippo Campus guys are charismatic, down-to-earth, talented, and share a bond on stage that can only exist when you're performing with your bestests of friends. They're a must-see for any music lover that enjoys a solid performance.
Beginning their set with “Warm Glow,” Hippo Campus set the mood for the night by creating an atmosphere of a magical moment. The song is followed by “Honestly” and “Bambi”, two songs from their new record. On July 10th, the band released two albums which included demo tracks of their songs from Bambi as well as never released songs. The audience had a chance to listen to two of their tracks from those demos which built excitement for what we can expect from their future record. While playing their set, it is evident that these friends truly enjoy their time playing together as we saw them making each other laugh on stage by dancing and making silly faces.
As the Head and the Heart approaches last week of their tour, guitarist Nathan Stocker expresses his gratitude for the band.
In the fall, Hippo Campus will be on the road for their own headlining tour with the Greeting Committee.
