MisterWives made their way to downtown LA’s Teragram Ballroom on the night of November 22nd, only to knock the dancing shoes off their LA crowd, in what proved to be one of the most energetic performances we have experienced this year.
The night started off with LA-based opening act, Foreign Air. Their set delivered just right amount of energy to get the crowd amped up for MisterWives. By the time they stepped off stage, LA was ready to dance and get their cardio on for the entire week. One thing was noted for sure, is that MisterWives brought their A game and delivered a knockout performance that Friday night.
When New York City’s MisterWives jumped on stage to the beat of their opening song “The End”, their energetic and magnetic performance drew the crowd immediately in, and had them dancing for the next hour and a half. The chemistry between the band members is so evident, and you can tell that without a doubt that vocalist Mandy Lee, bassist William Hehir, guitarist Marc Campbell, keyboardist/trumpet and accordion player Jesse Blum, and Saxophonist Mike Murphy have a genuine passion for what they do and so much fun doing it together as a band. MisterWives recently released their new EP Mini Bloom having been signed on by Fueled By Ramen. With these new songs, MisterWives are proving to be the noteworthy band their early followers always knew they were—only now with more tenure under the belt, and the confidence and spunk to prove that they have everything it takes to bring down the house in their own headlining tour—No Place Like Home.
Another noteworthy moment was when Mandy kneeled on stage, bringing her at eye-level with a fan, and grabbing her hand as she serenaded her to where the fan was in tears, with the audience was fully captivated by the performance and synergy between Mandy and follower.
Throughout the night we experienced Mandy Lee’s strong vocals and dance moves accompanied by her side-wing men, Marc and William meeting her with equal charisma. With 85% of the setlist being comprised of upbeat tracks, the energy on each side of the stage was palpable and even if you had 2 left feet, you couldn’t help but boop to the beat of their tracks. Some of the songs on the setlist included “Coloring Outside”, Drummer Boy”, Only Human”, “Find My Way Home”, “Truth Hurts”.
Some of the standout moments of the night included the simple but powerful choreography between Marc, William and Mandy during “Coming Up For Air” where they would in-sync bend backward and slowly come back to a straight-up position as if they were in fact, coming up for air. Another noteworthy moment was when Mandy kneeled on stage, bringing her at eye-level with a fan, and grabbing her hand as she serenaded her to where the fan was in tears, with the audience was fully captivated by the performance and synergy between Mandy and follower.
MisterWives closed their set with “whywhywhy”, “Vagabond”, and “Our Own House”. During the encore the crowd was met by a surprise when the guys in the band were on the second level of the Teragram Ballroom, in a marching band formation, and made their way down to the standing floor walking through the sea of people while performing their marching bass drums, trumpets and Mandy meeting them within the crowd to sing along.
MisterWives performance was everything LA could have hoped for, and more. We are excited for what’s to come for this talented band and can only expect amazing things as they continue to march to the beat of their own drum.
