After a full tour in Europe, Benjamin Francis Leftwich lands in North America to continue his run along with support from Abraham Alexander. Friends, family, and couples gather to watch his master hands play the guitar. His voice, soothing as it sounds on recorded audio, resonates in the small intimate room at the Troubadour on a Friday night. With nothing but a mic stand and a keyboard on stage, his captivating performance exceeded the minimalist stage set up.
In his song “Pictures,” he stood on the edge of the stage without a microphone (the crowd was that courteous and quiet!), giving the crowd a full acoustic show.
His set list included songs from his latest album released this year Gratitude as well as older tracks from his 2011 album Last Smoke Before the Snowstorm. The crowd quietly listened to Benjamin as he worked his magic on his guitar while being accompanied by his pianist in selected songs. His performance, beautifully crafted by his voice and his guitar, included songs such as “Butterfly Culture” and “Look Ma!”. In his song “Pictures,” he stood on the edge of the stage without a microphone (the crowd was that courteous and quiet!), giving the crowd a full acoustic show. It’s amazing how singing without a microphone can create such a personal moment between the performer and audience.
The atmosphere of the entire night was met with calmness and peace tied with a sense of oneness. Benjamin thanked the crowd for being so very quiet and shared a story about one of the shows where two men were fighting in the back during the performance of his last song. The night was comparatively opposite of that as the audience kept their eyes locked at Benjamin and stood in awe of his beautiful voice and guitar playing.
On his return for encore, Benjamin performed three songs to end the night, having fan favorite “Atlas Hands” as the last song to be performed. He, again, stood at the edge of the stage, creating one final intimate moment between him and his audience before exiting the double doors of the venue. After a beautiful night of performance, bless Benjamin Francis Leftwich for giving our ears music that puts our heart at peace. With his new single “Elephant” just released, we can be hopeful for new music from him very soon!
