Friday night in LA at the Fonda Theater, people gathered to see a sold out show put on by one of the latest up and coming band that everybody is talking about—Half Alive. Formed in 2016, the band has rapidly risen to fame since the release of their first single “The Fall”. Fans have been eagerly waiting to hear the music that they have been listening on repeat over the last year. Well, good news for everybody —the wait is finally over! Half Alive have commenced their Now, Not Yet tour in the great city of Los Angeles, California, their home state.
The band consisting of Josh Taylor, Brett Kramer, and J. Tyler Johnson appeared as the curtain unveiled the pitch dark stage. It is only fitting that they opened the tour with “ok ok?”, the first song on their debut album which the tour is named after. The only light that’s hitting them was from a projector-looking object carried by a man who circled around the band with its light. As the song reached its bridge, they took place at their respective positions and finished the song at a heightened intensity, only appropriate to start off the night. The crowd went wild with cheers of excitement to see the long-awaited show. “RUNAWAY” was their second song, pumping the audiences’ adrenaline with their upbeat track.
Throughout the entire night, the excitement in the audience did not stop. Fans sang back every word that Josh sang to them, creating a resounding echo in the venue. Half Alive performed their tracks from their debut album including “TrusT” and “Pure Gold” as well as their older tracks such as “The Fall”. Seeing Brett, J., and Josh so happy on stage makes everyone feel the pure joy that they were feeling on stage. Josh brought out his guitar for an acoustic performance of “ice cold.” in which the crowd sang loudly along with him. The two dancers returned again on stage while the band played “BREAKFAST”, a melodious song with beautiful lyrics accompanied by captivating choreography.
Half Alive closes the night with their two biggest hits “still feel.” and “Awake At Night”. Artistic is an understatement when it comes to this band. Not only is their music unique and individualistic, but even in their live performance, they managed to curate a one of a kind production.
Intertwining the beauty of music and art, the band successfully merged the two together an unforgettable show. Half Alive will be back at the Fonda Theater on October 21st for their second show in LA!
