Supporting Fitz and the Tantrums and Young the Giant’s co-headline tour, COIN took on Santa Barbara for the first time and made a memorable impression on the California crowd. Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, the trio consisting of lead singer Chase Lawrence, drummer Ryan Winnen, and guitarist Joe Memmel have come a long way since forming the band in 2012. With beaming smiles and southern charm, they took on the Santa Barbara bowl as the crowd awaited their performance.
Under the hot summer sun, COIN began their set with “Growing Pains” followed by “Simple Romance”, both are songs expected to be on their unreleased third album. Their tunes are catchy and was very fitting for the California summer vibes as everyone in the crowd started to move along to the beat of the music. Midway through their set, they performed their newest single “Crash My Car”, which Chase shared on Instagram that it was written after meeting a girl who had attended a show despite being involved in a car accident on her way to their show. His handmade bracelet with the title shows the importance of this song to Chase. The band took a brief break on stage to take in the precious moment of performing at one of the most beautiful venue on one of the most beautiful nights.
Before performing one of their biggest hits “Talk Too Much”, a song that you just cannot go without dancing, Chase asks “Is it rude of me if I asked everybody seated to stand up?” The crowd, without even answering the question, begins to stand up. “I guess not!”, Chase replies surprised at how easy it was to make hundreds of people stand up and dance.
With the audience ready to dance, Joe Memmel begins to play the melody which immediately got the crowd cheering and dancing.
The band ended their set with their usual concluding song “Fingers Crossed”, an another up beat song perfect for setting the stage for the Fitz and the Tantrums to follow. COIN’s show at the Santa Barbara show is only just the beginning for this amazing band and we expect nothing less of more dance along music from their up and coming album.
