Scottish synthpop band, CHVRCHES returned to LA for their Love Is Dead tour and turned the Greek Theater into a dance party. Stepping on stage Lauren Mayberry (vocals), Iain Cook (synths/guitars) and Martin Doherty (synths) would show a packed venue a night to remember.
It’s hard to describe this concert in one word because there were so many things going on. First off, Lauren Mayberry, sporting a shirt that read “Girls Can Do Anything”, has a GREAT sense of humor. Seriously, she’s so funny. Oftentimes talking in between songs and telling jokes, and making the audience laugh with a natural and genuine sense of humor. Two—her vocals and energy are absolutely amazing. She radiates joy and charmisa, and her voice is crystal clear. Lauren’s signature move is spinning around in circles and she also tends to run from one end of the stage to the other, leaving no side unattended. The guys in the band were also great often chiming into Lauren’s stories and playing along to her banter. At one point Martin Doherty stepped center stage and sang ‘My Enemy’.
They played a versatile and well curated setlist, mostly covering music from their new album, and including some of their popular older tracks. Songs included in the setlist were ‘Deliverance’,’Never Say Die’, ‘Get Out’, ‘Graffiti’, ‘Miracle’, ‘Forever’, and ‘The Mother We Share’.
CHVRCHES is an absolute joy to see live. You’re guaranteed laughs, and amazing entertainment with great music for an hour and a half.
